Michael T. Watkins, MD, of
MGH Vascular Surgery, recently was elected president of the Society of
Black Academic Surgeons (SBAS). The SBAS is focused on stimulating, mentoring
and inspiring young African-American surgeons to pursue careers in academic
medicine.
Three MGH physicians recently were honored with Harvard Medical School
(HMS) Excellence in Mentoring Awards. Edward
Lowenstein, MD, of
the MGH Department of Anesthesia, received the William Silen Lifetime
Achievement in Mentoring Award; Dennis Brown,
PhD, of the MGH Membrane Biology Program, received the
A. Clifford Barger Excellence in Mentoring Award; and Marcus
Altfeld, MD, PhD, of the MGH Infectious Disease Unit,
received the Young Mentor Award. The awards were presented at a ceremony
held May 25.
