Cancer Resource Room open house
The MGH Cancer Resource Room will celebrate its 10th anniversary with
an open house May 31, from 10 am to 4 pm in Yawkey 8C. All MGHers are
invited to visit for food, favors and raffles. For more information, call

Armed Services Blood Donor Month
During June, The MGH Blood Donor Center will sponsor "Armed Services
Blood Donor Month." All members of the MGH community are invited
to donate blood in honor of veterans and those currently serving in the
military. "Thinking of You" cards will be available for any
donors who would like to give a card to a loved one, and also will be
distributed to area Veterans Affairs hospitals. Blood donors also are
especially needed over the Memorial Day weekend. The center is located
in the Gray Lobby and is open for whole blood donations Tuesdays through
Thursdays from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, and Fridays from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Peru mission hospital presentation
Klaus John, MD, founder and director of the Hospital Disospi Suyana, a
mission hospital for the Quecha Indians of Peru, will give a presentation
about the hospital May 30, at 6 pm in the Bigelow Amphitheater on White
4. John will discuss some of the health problems of the Quichuas and how
members of the MGH can help. The talk is sponsored by Charles M. Ferguson,
MD, director of the MGH General Surgery Residency Program.
Caring for the invisible patient
The MGH Patient Care Services Diversity Steering Committee will sponsor
"Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender Health Care: An Educational Program
for the MGH Community" June 14, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm in the Yawkey
Center, Room 7980. The guest speakers are Harvey J. Makadon, MD, director
of Education and Professional Training at the Fenway Institute, and Judith
B. Bradford, PhD,
co-chair and director of Lesbian Health Research at the Fenway Institute.
The event is open to all members of the MGH community.
Ernest M. Haddad Lecture
The MGH Institute of Health Policy will host the annual Ernest M. Haddad
Lecture in Law and Ethics June 8, from 8 to 9 am in the O'Keeffe Auditorium.
Guest speaker Karen Davis, president of the Commonwealth Fund, will present
"Towards a High Performance Health Care System."
Hypertension screenings and discussion
MGH Senior HealthWISE will host free hypertension screenings and a discussion
about self-management strategies June 5, from 1:30 to 2:30 pm at the Hill
House, 127 Mt. Vernon St., Boston. The event is for seniors age 60 years

MGH Medical Services blood donation challenge
The final day for blood donations in the MGH Medical Services challenge
is May 31. Nurses currently are leading the doctors with a 6.11 percent

MGH Chelsea safety fair
The MGH Chelsea HealthCare Center will host the Family Summer Safety Fair
June 10, from noon to 3 pm. The event will include information about home,
water, fire, sun, bike and car safety, and will feature contests, raffles,
prizes, live entertainment, special guests and bike helmet decorating.

Wellman Center lecture
The MGH Wellman Center for Photomedicine will host "Going for the
Nucleus: A PDT Story," May 30, from 2:15 to 3:15 pm in the Thier
Conference Room.
A coffee reception will begin at 2 pm. Rahul Ray, PhD, of the Boston University
