  • Twenty-five years of HIV/AIDS progress and challenges
    The MGH has been at the forefront of clinical care and research in HIV/AIDS since the first cases in the United States were initially described in June 1985. To mark these milestones, the MGH Division of Infectious Diseases and the Partners AIDS Research Center hosted "25th Anniversary of the First Report of U.S. AIDS Cases," June 8 at the Simches Research Center.
  • City Council honors MGH Chelsea's partnership
    Members of the Police Action Counseling Team (PACT) recently were honored by the Chelsea City Council at a special recognition ceremony held May 22 at Chelsea City Hall. The PACT program is a partnership between the MGH Chelsea HealthCare Center and the Chelsea Police Department that provides immediate intervention to children who have witnessed violence or experienced other traumatic events.
  • Rollout of Medication Reconciliation Program continues
    To help reduce the risk of medication errors, the MGH launched an electronic medication reconciliation process in April that has been introduced to 22 patient care units and is more than halfway through the rollout phase. The goal of this new program, which is available in Provider Order Entry (POE), is to help clinicians track medication lists for both outpatients and inpatients and compare or "reconcile" the admission, transfer and discharge orders for medications to the original lists.
  • Local women honored for living healthy lives
    Seven community women and two organizations were honored as role models of good health at the sixth annual "Celebrating Women: Leading a Vibrant Healthy Life" women's health fair May 11.
  • Students explore health care careers
    Middle school students participating in the Big Sisters program at the Edwards Middle School in Charlestown visited the MGH for a career awareness day June 6.
  • Roger Sweet learning center dedicated
    The MGH Charlestown HealthCare Center hosted a special celebration June 10 to formally mark the opening of the Roger H. Sweet Patient and Family Learning Center. The learning center is named in honor of Roger H. Sweet, MD, a longtime MGH Charlestown physician and former medical director for the MGH health centers, who was recognized for his commitment to education and community-based medical care.
  • Women faculty at the MGH honored
    The MGH hosted the ninth annual Office for Women's Careers (OWC) reception May 25 to honor women physicians and scientists who have made significant career achievements.
  • Edgman-Levitan co-chairs Patient Safety Congress
    Susan Edgman-Levitan, PA, executive director of the MGH's John D. Stoeckle Center for Primary Care Innovation, recently served as co-chair of the National Patient Safety Foundation's 8th Annual Patient Safety Congress in San Francisco.
