Local women honored for living healthy lives

Seven community women and two organizations were honored as role models of good health at the sixth annual "Celebrating Women: Leading a Vibrant Healthy Life" women's health fair May 11. The event was presented by the MGH health centers and MGH Community Health Associates. The honorees were selected by their individual health centers for serving as a source of inspiration for other women to live healthy lives. More than 500 people attended the event, which was held at the Charlestown Navy Yard.

At the fair, exhibits and discussions covered a number of women's health issues — including heart disease, stress reduction, health screenings, teen Internet safety and lung cancer. Attendees also enjoyed a presentation by Stephanie Marston, author
of Chicken Soup: Life Lessons for Women. She discussed ways for women to live healthier and more balanced lives. Mallika Marshall, MD, medical reporter for CBS-4 and a physician at the MGH Chelsea HealthCare Center, served as the mistress of ceremonies.
