  • Support staff members honored
Close to 2,300 operations support service employees gathered under the Bulfinch Tent to enjoy a special luncheon given in honor of Operations Support Staff Day June 13. The annual event is held each summer to recognize the important work support staff members provide to employees, patients and visitors.
  • Blood drive challenge winners
In a fight-to-the-finish race, a team of MGH doctors scored an amazing victory in the second annual Medical Service Blood Drive Challenge. The monthlong challenge was held in May to encourage nurses and physicians to donate blood at the MGH Blood Donor Center.
  • Cancer Resource Room celebrates 10 years of compassion and caring
Before the MGH Cancer Resource Room (CRR) opened its doors 10 years ago, cancer patients at the hospital often struggled to find information about their illnesses. Without an easily accessible, central location for cancer resources and materials, patients would spend hours searching for information, adding a sense of confusion and frustration to an already difficult time in their lives. During the past decade, however, the Cancer Resource Room has helped to fill that void. Hundreds of hospital employees and patients gathered to celebrate the milestone anniversary at an open house held May 31.
  • Pain management resources available
Some patients experience significant pain when they are in the hospital or as outpatients but may not always know how to communicate the extent of their pain with their caregivers. The goal of the MGH's Pain Relief program is for clinicians to assess patients' pain and its effects and to offer pain-related care.
  • Thomas S. Durant, MD, Fellowship holds annual reception
Compassion and action for underserved individuals around the world are only two of the many wonderful characteristics that MGH physician Thomas S. Durant, MD, possessed during his life. His legacy lives on through the Thomas S. Durant, MD, Fellowship in Refugee Medicine. This past year's Durant Fellowship participants shared some of their experiences from around the world at the program's annual reception June 7 in the Trustees Room.
  • Caring for the "invisible patient"
As with all patient populations, there are important concerns related to providing optimum care to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender patients. To help educate the MGH community about the topic, the Patient Care Services Diversity Committee recently sponsored a presentation on gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender health care.
