In General Katie Fallon, RN, recently received the 2006 Young Alumni Medal from the Villanova University Alumni Association in honor of her work as a fellow of the Thomas S. Durant, MD, Fellowship in Refugee Medicine. Fallon, a 2001 graduate of the university, spent six months working with refugees in the Darfur region of the Sudan in Africa. The Villanova Young Alumni Medal is given annually to an alumnus who has reached a significant level of achievement in his or her profession. Raymond Kelleher, MD, PhD, of MGH Neurology, was named one of the 2006 Pew Scholars in the Biomedical Sciences by the Pew Charitable Trusts and the University of California at San Francisco. As a Pew Scholar, Kelleher will receive a four-year, $240,000 grant to support biomedical research projects. The Pew Scholars in Biomedical Sciences program was established in 1985 to support researchers in the early- to mid-stages of their careers. Paul Yu, MD, PhD, of MGH
Cardiology, was named the recipient of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association's
(PHA) Mentored Clinical Scientist Award, which supports a three- to five-year
period of research. Yu will use the award for research in the causes of
and treatments for primary pulmonary hypertension. |
