Sox fans give red for chance at prizes

MGH Red Sox fans like Daniel Dolan of the PACU (shown at right with Dennis Feeney, RN, of the Blood Donor Center) have received a special bonus for donating blood this week. As part of the Remy Report Blood Drive with the MGH and BWH held through July 14, donors have received an autographed Remdawg T-shirt and have been entered into a drawing for two tickets to a Red Sox game. Jerry Remy — a former Red Sox player, current Red Sox commentator for the New England Sports Network and host of the Remy Report — generously donated the T-shirts and the tickets and has been promoting the blood drive on his website.

"This has been a terrific partnership with the Remy Report and the Red Sox," says Kate DeCoste, of the MGH Blood Donor Center. "The drive has helped us boost donations when we need it most during the summer months." Another summertime benefit to donating blood at the MGH center is a special promotion with Jet Blue Airlines. Anyone who donates during July and August will be entered into a raffle for two Jet Blue tickets to any location in the United States.

The MGH Blood Donor Center is open for whole blood donations Tuesday through Thursday, from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm; and Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Appointments are encouraged, and walk-ins are welcome. For more information about donating blood at the MGH Blood Donor Center, call (617) 726-8177.
