MGH Heart Center honors cardiac nurses

The MGH Heart Center saluted the hard work and dedication of its nursing staff June 22 with a day full of celebratory activities. The MGH's first cardiac visiting nurse scholar — Jean McSweeney, RN, PhD, FAAN, of the University of Arkansas — led a clinical nursing session in the morning and presented her research findings in the afternoon. Her studies focused on helping women identify the symptoms of a heart attack or myocardial infarction.

The celebration also included a poster session in the Main Corridor, where clinical nurses from the cardiac units shared information and answered questions about cardiac risk factors, specialized cardiac equipment, the MGH cardiac patient care units and the MGH Cardiac Practice Committee. The posters were developed by staff members from the Electrophysiology Laboratory, the Knight Center for Interventional Cardiovascular Therapy, the Cardiac Operating Room, Blake 8, and Ellison 8, 9, 10 and 11. Two additional posters highlighted the MGH cardiovascular nursing certification program and the MGH Cardiac Practice Committee, which coordinated the nursing week celebration.
