PIE nomination period
The Partners in Excellence (PIE) Awards nomination period currently is
underway. Nominations can be made in the following categories: quality
treatment and service, leadership and innovation, teamwork, operational
efficiency and outstanding
community contributions. To nominate a colleague, visit pulse.partners.org/about/pie_about.htm,
or submit a paper nomination available from managers/supervisors and HR
generalists. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 22. For more information,

MGH history tours
The MGH Office for Visitor Education
Programs now offers history tours of the
hospital on the third Friday of each month. The tour is limited to 25
people. To make a tour reservation, send e-mail with name, department

Run of Hope to benefit MGHC cancer
research
The Four Seasons Hotel Boston will sponsor the annual 5K Run of Hope Sept.
10. The race will begin at 10 am at the Lagoon on the Esplanade in Boston.
All
proceeds will benefit pediatric cancer research at MassGeneral
Hospital for Children. Boston mayor Thomas Menino and New England
Revolution soccer players also will be at the event. For more information

Senior HealthWISE events
MGH Senior HealthWISE
will host a "Healthy Tips for Summer Sun" discussion group Aug.
30, from 1:30 to 2:30 pm in the West End Civic Association Community Room
at One Emerson Place. Topics will include skin protection, proper hydration
and other summer-related issues. Senior HealthWISE also will offer an
"Effective Communication with Your Health Care Providers" workshop
Sept. 4, from 1:30 to 2:30 pm at the Hill House, 127 Mt. Vernon St., Boston.
The workshop will cover how to prepare for a doctor's visit, including
what to bring, questions to ask and how to make the best use of time.

Employee smoking cessation program
MGH
Human Resources, in cooperation with the MGH Tobacco Treatment Services,
is offering a smoking cessation program for MGH employees. The group will
meet Tuesdays, Sept. 12 through Oct. 31 from noon to 12:45 pm in the Yawkey
Center for Outpatient Care. Registration is required. For more information

Spanish for Health Care classes
MGH Training
and Workforce Development now is offering Spanish classes to help
employees better communicate with Spanish-speaking patients. Beginner
I and II classes will take place Tuesdays, Sept. 19 through Dec. 5; and
Intermediate I, II and Advanced classes will take place Thursdays, Sept.
21 through Dec. 7. Registration will take place by the East Garden Café
Aug. 30 and Sept. 8 from 11:30 am to 2 pm. The registration deadline is
