Seniors meet with City Councilor Ross

Community issues were the focus of the day as participants in the MGH Senior HealthWISE program gathered in the Haber Conference Room Aug. 17 to meet with Boston City Councilor Michael Ross (left). The discussion began with updates from Ross about current community and legislative issues such as the possibility of a pedestrian bridge at Leverett Circle, plans for a new dormitory at Suffolk University and information about the Taxi Cab Bill of Rights. Addressing teen gun violence also was of particular concern to the seniors, who participated in an animated discussion about prevention ideas — including youth summer jobs, extended school days and an increased number of community centers throughout the area. The seniors enjoyed hearing about the latest community news and were pleased to make suggestions and to have their questions answered personally by Ross.
