New Clinical Genetic Research Facility in Simches

MGH investigators performing outpatient genetic studies now can make use of the new Clinical Genetic Research Facility (CGRF) located in the Simches Research Building. The contemporary 2,800-square-foot facility features six exam rooms, two interview/observation rooms, one phlebotomy room and a processing laboratory. Investigators also can employ the CGRF's experienced medical assistant and genetic counselor for tasks such as drawing blood, lab processing, consultation and assistance with subject consent forms and Human Research Committee Internal Review Board approvals.

The facility is an initiative of the MGH Center for Human Genetic Research, directed by James F. Gusella, PhD, and is managed by Penelope Roberts, MS, CGRF manager and genetic counselor. "This new space is a great resource for the research community," says Roberts. "Our mission is to support and promote genetics in clinical research here at the MGH. Investigators have everything they need available, and we are looking forward to working with new researchers." Above and below, the new CGRF is open on Simches 2.

The CGRF is open to all investigators performing genetic studies. Those who are conducting genetic studies supported by noncommercial sponsors are given priority. The CGRF also considers genetic studies sponsored by industry, as well as those without a genetic component on a space-available basis.

For more information, contact Roberts at (617) 643-3133 or proberts@partners.org.
