  • Electroconvulsive therapy discussion hosted at the MGH
    For many the image suggested by the words "shock therapy" is Jack Nicholson violently convulsing on a gurney in the 1975 movie, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. But according to Kitty Dukakis, wife of former Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis, and journalist Larry Tye — co-authors of a new book on electroconvulsive shock therapy (ECT) — that is not an accurate portrayal of a remarkable therapy that helps millions of people with depression each year.
  • United Way coming soon
    The 2006 United Way campaign will begin with a kickoff event Oct. 27 and will last through Nov. 10. In the coming weeks, MGHers can expect to see posters, fliers, information tables and a website designed to increase awareness about the campaign. Last year, the MGH ranked among the top Massachusetts health care organizations in dollar donations to the United Way by raising more than $346,000.
  • Dahlin receives Nurse of the Year Award
    Constance Dahlin, APRN, MC, PCM, a leader in the MGH Palliative Care Service, recently was selected from among a nationwide panel of nominees to receive the prestigious 2007 Advanced Practice Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse of the Year Award.
  • Kidney Care Day at the MGH
    The MGH Nephrology Division celebrated its third annual Kidney Care Day Oct. 5 with a talk and an information table to publicize the wide range of resources available at the MGH for patients with kidney disease. Bernard C. Rossier, MD, of the University of Lausanne in Switzerland presented "Epithelial Sodium Channel Function and Dysfunction: Revisiting Diuretic Therapy," during Medical Grand Rounds.
  • AMMP scholarships help MGHers realize their dreams
    MGH employees were applauded for their extraordinary commitment to education as they received scholarships totaling more than $10,000 at the Association of Multicultural Members of Partners (AMMP) annual scholarship awards ceremony Sept. 14. Each year, AMMP sponsors the scholarship program to assist its members in advancing their career goals by furthering their educations.
  • When it comes to the flu, caring means not sharing
    The MGH Occupational Health Service will kickoff its annual flu vaccination campaign Oct. 30 at the Tea Leaves & Coffee Beans Café in the WACC. It is recommended that all MGH and Partners HealthCare employees, staff and volunteers be vaccinated. Employees must bring an MGH or Partners ID badge and wear clothing that rolls easily up to the top of the arm. All those who receive a flu shot automatically will be entered into a raffle to win a team-signed New England Revolution soccer ball or jersey.
