United Way coming soon
The
2006 United Way campaign will begin with a kickoff event Oct. 27 and will
last through Nov. 10. In the coming weeks, MGHers can expect to see posters,
fliers, information tables and a website designed to increase awareness
about the campaign. Last year, the MGH ranked among the top Massachusetts
health care organizations in dollar donations to the United Way by raising
more than $346,000.
Patricia Sheehan of Human Resources and Nancy Gagliano, MD, of the Massachusetts
General Physicians Organization lead the MGH/United Way committee. This
year's campaign slogan encourages MGHers to "Think locally ... Give
locally ..."
"We are hoping that every MGH staff member and employee will choose
to make a donation to this year's United Way campaign to help benefit
the many services and programs funded by the organization," says
Gagliano. "Giving to the United Way gives back to your communities
and helps your neighbors. The United Way system includes more than 1,350
community-based organizations, and contributions can be directed to your
local charity of choice."
"An important aspect of the United Way campaign is that a percentage
of the money raised beyond the goal comes directly back to the hospital
in the form of a donation to MGH Social Services," says Sheehan.
"Last year, MGH Social Services received funds that helped provide
extra care to MGH patients and families in need."
