Bazari
and Weinstein receive top ACGME honors
Hasan Bazari, MD, program director for the MGH Department of Medicine
Training Program, and Debra Weinstein, MD, of the MGH Gastrointestinal
Unit and vice president for Graduate Medical Education at Partners, were
named the recipients of two awards from the Accreditation Council for
Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The ACGME is a nonprofit organization
that evaluates and accredits medical residency programs in the United
States and aims to improve health care by assessing and advancing the
quality of residents' education through accreditation.
Bazari (seen at right with Weinstein)
is one of 10 recipients of the Parker J. Palmer Courage
to Teach Award, which was established in 2001 in honor of Parker J. Palmer,
PhD, a sociologist and educator who authored the book Courage to Teach.
The award honors program directors in different specialties who continuously
find new and innovative ways to teach residents to provide quality health
care. Bazari oversees the training program for residents in MGH Internal
Medicine.
Weinstein has been named one of three recipients of the Courage to Lead
Award, which is presented to institutional directors of graduate medical
education programs who have created an exemplary environment for educational
programs; have facilitated the ethical, professional and personal development
of residents; and who have ensured safe and appropriate care of patients.
Weinstein oversees graduate medical education programs across the Partners
institutions.
