  • Service Matters: Shaping the experience of care
At the MGH, each and every employee — whether on the front lines or behind the scenes — has a role in shaping the experience of care for patients. To underscore this fact, the MGH Service Improvement Department has launched a forum called the Service Learning Series designed for managers and leaders who will lead the charge to build and support a culture of service at the hospital.
  • Glitz and glamour in the PICU
On a normal workday, Lisa Ogden, RN, of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), wears her scrubs, ID badge and comfortable sneakers — practical attire for keeping up with the demands of caring for her young patients. The morning of Jan. 24, however, was anything but an average day for Ogden.
  • Severe hypothermia cases arrive at the MGH
When Boston's mild winter ended abruptly last month, temperatures took a sharp downturn, reaching only 6 degrees Jan. 17. Clinicians at the MGH expected to see a few weather-related emergency room patients, but they were surprised to deal with two cases of hypothermia — in two homeless men so severe that treatment required a rarely used course of action to save their lives.
  • FSA expenses for 2006
MGH employees with 2006 Health Care or Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) have until March 15 to incur expenses and submit them to the Human Resources Benefits Office.
  • A new vision for Partners Telemedicine
With the new year, Partners Telemedicine has launched several new and exciting changes — expanding its commitment to connected health technologies to help increase patient access to quality medical care, changing its name and moving to a new location. The word "telemedicine" generally refers to the use of communications technologies — such as satellite technology, videoconferencing or telephone — in the real-time delivery of clinical care.
  • SAC meeting explores current challenges
Next week's annual meeting of the MGH Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) - a group of national scientific leaders who advise the hospital on its research program - will be the 60th such event. All events are open to the entire MGH community. On Feb. 14, the 31st annual Celebration of Science will highlight the work of investigators throughout the MGH.
