  • A haven for families
Since early January, 2-year-old Claire Powers has been a patient at the MGH's Francis H. Burr Proton Therapy Center, receiving daily treatments for Ewing's sarcoma on her tongue. While the extensive course of treatment can be grueling at times — particularly for a child as young as Claire — she and her mother, April Montgomery, are lucky to have a special place to rest, relax and recuperate after each day's treatment.
  • Job Shadow Day introduces students to the MGH
As groundhogs across America scrutinized their shadows Feb. 2, a different sort of shadowing was taking place across the MGH: the 12th annual Groundhog Job Shadow Day, in which students from Boston public high schools learn about careers in health care by shadowing MGHers for part of the day. The program is part of the MGH/Boston Public Schools Partnership, coordinated by the MGH Community Benefit Program.
  • Women's heart health
The Massachusetts General Hospital Heart Center launched the MGH's first Women's Heart Health Program Feb. 15 to provide comprehensive, compassionate cardiac care for women of all ages. The program focuses on the full spectrum of care — including prevention, early detection and treatment — in a friendly environment designed especially for women.
  • Partners/Harvard AIDS Clinical Trials Unit receives grant renewal
For 25 years, the MGH has been at the forefront of clinical care and research of HIV/AIDS and a leader in the development of promising new anti-HIV therapies. The MGH, along with BWH and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), together make up the Partners/Harvard AIDS Clinical Trials Unit (ACTU) — one of approximately 25 domestic and 20 international units that comprise the larger National Institutes of Health (NIH) cooperative group known as the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG).
  • Starting the journey: Steps to success
The adage "a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step," rang true for more than 40 MGHers who took the first step to jumpstart their careers by attending "Steps to Success: The Journey from Job to Career" Feb. 8.
