  • A good reason to check PDAs
    MGH Transplant Center physicians, surgeons and transplant coordinators have a new reason to stay up to date with messages on their wireless personal digital assistants (PDAs). The United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) has implemented DonorNet, a new Internet-based organ allocation system that allows the nationwide transplant community to be notified seamlessly and securely of available organs for transplantation.
  • Remembering when the levees broke
    In commemoration of Black History Month, the Association of Multicultural Members of Partners (AMMP), with support from the MGH Multicultural Affairs Office, hosted a screening Feb. 28 of "When the Levees Broke," a Spike Lee documentary depicting the devastation and recovery of the Gulf Coast region of the United States following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The film was followed by a panel discussion with Deborah Washington, RN, PhDc, director of Diversity for MGH Patient Care Services, and Joy Williams, RN, of the Department of Radiology.
  • Patriots pride at the Blood Donor Center
    Two lucky blood donors have been chosen as the winners of the MGH Blood Donor Center's raffle of New England Patriots team memorabilia. Gregory Falta won a football autographed by defensive lineman Vince Wilfork, and Frank Uttaro received a team jersey autographed by running back Corey Dillon.
  • A new day for cardiac care
    MGHers gathered in the Yawkey Center for Outpatient Care Feb. 26 to celebrate the official launch of the MGH Heart Center, which was created to combine the longstanding traditions of individualized care with contemporary, evidenced-based cardiology treatment. The foundation of the MGH Heart Center is its multidisciplinary approach to treat complex heart disease — not only to do what is best for patients, but also to keep pace with the rapid advances in cardiac medicine and surgery.
  • MIND award honors those striving for a cure
    On March 2, the MassGeneral Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease (MIND) honored a dedicated contributor to the fight to cure Alzheimer's disease, awarding the first annual Philanthropic Innovation and Investment Award to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund. MIND established the award to recognize donors and organizations who have made substantial commitments to visionary work that cannot be funded through other sources but has the potential to radically change scientific thinking and drug discovery for neurodegenerative disease.
