Free skin cancer screenings
MGH Dermatologic Surgery will offer free skin cancer screenings May 15, from 5:30 to 7 pm at 50 Staniford St., Suite 270. Screenings are by appointment only. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call (617) 726-1869.

2007 Collins Lecture Series
As part of the 2007 Collins Lecture Series, the MGH Department of Radiation Oncology will host "Some Characteristics of Biological Damage Induced by Ionizing Radiations" May 1, from 5 to 6:15 pm in the Ether Dome. Smoking cessation program
MGH Tobacco Treatment Services is offering a seven-week smoking cessation program on Wednesdays, beginning May 2 at 5:30 pm. The program will include information about preparing to quit, coping with stress without cigarettes and preventing weight gain. Participants can receive low-cost nicotine patches and gum with written approval from their primary care physician. For more information, call (617) 726-7443.

Open Helix computer tutorial
The MGH Clinical Research Program will offer "How Clinical Investigators Use the Human Genome Browser and HapMap: Open Helix Computer Tutorial" May 17, from 1 to 4 pm in the Starr Center at 185 Cambridge St. The hands-on computer tutorial will teach participants how to navigate the wealth of genetic data available on the Internet. Genetic literacy course
The MGH Clinical Research Program will offer "Genetic Literacy: A Guide to Understanding the Language and Basic Concepts of Modern Genetic Research" May 17, from 1:30 to 4:30 pm in the Simches Center, Room 3110. Partners Preferred Hotels for Daytime Business Events
Partners HealthCare has launched Partners Preferred Hotels for Daytime Business Events, to assist employees with booking business-related daytime meetings or events at area hotels. Using the program will result in a savings of 15 to 25 percent per event, depending on hotel. All Partners employees should use the program for meetings planned between 6 am and 5 pm. Methods in Bioengineering Conference
The MGH Center for Engineering in Medicine and the Harvard-MIT Division of Sciences and Technology will co-host the second annual "Methods in Bioengineering" conference July 12 and 13 in the Kresge Auditorium at MIT. The conference will cover cutting-edge and current state-of-the-art technologies in BioMEMS, regenerative medicine, functional imaging, opto-electronics and cellular modeling. CFD Noontime Learning Series
The MGH Center for Faculty Development (CFD) will offer "Partnering with Your Administrative Staff to Create a High Performance Team" May 2, from noon to 1 pm in the Yawkey Center, Room 10660. Mary Cunningham, director of the MGH Service Improvement Department, and Stacey Houghton, director of the MGH Practice Support Unit, will discuss ways to enhance relationships with administrative staff members and make them feel part of a team. Senior HealthWISE events
MGH Senior HealthWISE will host a one-hour exercise session, "Spring Into Fitness," May 3, from 11 am to 1 pm at The Clubs at Charles River Park. The session will be followed by a light snack. Registration is required. Senior HealthWISE also will offer free hypertension screenings and blood pressure checks May 7, from 1:30 to 2:30 pm at the Hill House, 127 Mt. Documentary on Islam and modern medicine
In partnership with the Harvard Medical School (HMS) Cross-Cultural Care Committee, the HMS Academy Center for Teaching and Learning and other organizations, the MGH Disparities Solutions Center will host a free screening of "Hold Your Breath" May 2, from 5:30 to 6:45 pm in the amphitheatre at 77 Avenue Louis Pasteur. The film explores the clash between ancient Islamic traditions and contemporary medical technology. A panel discussion will take place between 6:45 and 7:30 pm.
