  • "Salute to Nurses" of OR 36: The voices for burn patients
Despite the intense environment in MGH Operating Room (OR) 36, the hospital's burn OR, the staff there smiles due in large part to the spirit of the unit's four core nurses — Terry Leddy-Fitzgerald, RN; Elizabeth Viano, RN; Ann Doig, RN; and Linda Bracey, RN. The nurses were featured in the fifth annual BostonWorks "Salute to Nurses" publication, a special supplement of the May 6 Boston Globe.
  • Parents and pediatric patients benefit from coordinated care
MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC) caregivers had the opportunity to hear a presentation entitled "The Coordination of Care for Children with Special Health Care Needs in the Hospital and at Home" from two perspectives — that of a mother of a child with special health care needs and that of the child's MGHfC primary care provider — at the April 27 John D. Stoeckle Center for Primary Care Innovation seminar.
  • Healing hands, clean hands
When an MGH Chaplaincy staff member is called upon by a patient for spiritual and religious guidance, he or she becomes an intimate part of that patient's care team. Working in close contact with patients, their family members and visitors means that Chaplaincy staff, like other health care providers, have an important role in preventing the spread of infections at the MGH. Therefore, they are committed to a critical goal — practicing proper hand hygiene.
  • Saving for the future: Retirement planning events
Planning for retirement is an important process, but one that can be difficult to navigate. During the months of May and June, the MGH will offer a number of planning events and seminars to assist employees in learning about the resources available at the MGH to help them save for retirement.
