  • MGH clinicians participate in Nantucket Health Fair
    A team of MGHers, including physicians and nurses, made a special trip to the annual Nantucket Cottage Hospital (NCH) Health Fair May 5 to host a series of educational booths and attend a networking lunch with NCH clinicians. Under a new affiliation with NCH established this year, the MGH is working closely with the hospital to identify opportunities to enhance the services available on the island.
  • Antarctic honor for chief of MGH Anesthesia
    Tucked away in one of the farthest corners of the Earth — Antarctica — is a piece of the MGH. The continent is home to the Zapol Glacier (left), named in honor of Warren M. Zapol, MD, chief of MGH Anesthesia and Critical Care. Located 800 miles from the South Pole, the glacier can be found between the Tulaczyk and Donnellan Glaciers in the Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains.
  • State Rep. DeLeo recognized for role in keeping teens healthy
    Employees from the MGH Chelsea and Revere HealthCare Centers recently joined members of the Massachusetts Coalition of School-Based Health Centers and Revere High School student Anthony Enrique to present State Rep. Robert A. DeLeo (D-Winthrop), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, with the 2007 Key to Student Success Award at a May 8 ceremony at the Revere High School school-based health center (SBHC).
  • MGH Community Health Associates' new Wellness Center
    MGH Community Health Associates, the body that oversees the MGH's four Boston-area health centers, celebrated the opening of a new Wellness and Health Promotion Center April 12 at the MGH Revere HealthCare Center. The center's new resources, as well as partnerships with different MGH departments and community agencies, will help advance its mission of providing primary and preventive community health services to the low-income, uninsured and underserved populations of the North Shore.
  • A wish list becomes reality
    When 13-year-old Rachel Barnes was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in January 2007, she and her family received an outpouring of support from their community of North Andover, Mass. While the entire Barnes family was grateful for the encouragement and assistance from friends and neighbors, they knew they weren't the only family coping with a child's serious illness.
  • Live from the MGH Studio
    With the push of a button, the knowledge and expertise of MGH staff now can be shared with news outlets around the world through the hospital's new ReadyCam Studio. Located in the MGH Public Affairs Office at 50 Staniford St., Suite 830, the studio enables the hospital to transmit video and audio interviews from MGH experts via satellite to TV stations around the globe.
  • MGH researchers named CIMIT award winners
    Fifteen MGH research teams have been selected as recipients of part of a $5 million science awards program sponsored by the Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology (CIMIT), a nonprofit organization that provides support to early-stage medical device researchers.
