• Celebrating 10 years of the Claflin Awards
  The first 10 years of the Claflin Distinguished Scholar Awards were celebrated June 21 at a gala luncheon under the Bulfinch Tent. Named in honor of Jane Claflin, MGH honorary trustee and co-chair of the Women in Academic Medicine Committee, the two-year grants support MGH women researchers who also have young children.

• MGH ranks fifth in U.S. News list
  The MGH has again earned spots on the U.S. News & World Report annual Honor Roll of America's Best Hospitals, ranking fifth nationally among the 18 hospitals on the list.

• Focus on LGBT health
  Through an initiative by the Diversity Steering Committee, MGHers recently had the opportunity to hear from Stewart Landers, senior consultant with John Snow, Inc., a public health research and consulting firm. Landers' topic, "Why Everyone Should Care about Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Health," addressed the issue of health care disparities in the sexual minority community.

• Postcards from the Field
  When Alasdair K. Conn, MD, chief of MGH Emergency Services, recently journeyed to Chennai, India to assist a local hospital in developing a trauma center, an eager audience of colleagues and friends back home was able to stay up to date on his adventures through a new electronic essay series, Postcards from the Field.

• MGH nurses transform care at the bedside
  The MGH is among 68 U.S. hospitals and the only adult academic center in the state selected by the American Organization of Nurse Executives to participate in the second phase of a national, two-year patient care improvement project, Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB), sponsored by the MGH Center for Innovations in Care Delivery.

• Learning English takes hard work, dedication and support
  110 adult learners, students in the MGH's English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program, were honored June 22 in the MGH Workplace Education Program's annual Celebration of Achievement.

• New president to lead Institute of Health Professions
  Janis P. Bellack, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been named the new president of the MGH Institute of Health Professions, succeeding Ann Caldwell, who led the institute for the past 10 years. Bellack will begin her new role in September.

• Field of Dreams
  Laying aside their scrubs, white coats and business suits in favor of cleats and team jerseys, a group of 23 MGH and BWH professionals took to the field June 13 at the 10th annual Field of Dreams softball game at Fenway Park.
