Field
of Dreams
Laying aside their scrubs, white coats and business suits in favor of
cleats and team jerseys, a group of 23 MGH and BWH professionals took
to the field June 13 at the 10th annual Field of Dreams softball game
at Fenway Park. Each year, the friendly competition is held to raise funds
and support for Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD), Boston's
oldest anti-poverty agency. The event benefits ABCD's SummerWorks program,
which provides jobs, education, mentoring and tutoring for low-income,
at-risk Boston teenagers. The Partners HealthCare Community
Benefit Program provides funding for the event, and over the past 10 years
has raised more than $1 million for daycare, job training and other anti-poverty
programs.
MGH team members were led by David Torchiana, MD, chief executive officer
for the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization, and included Sally
Mason Boemer, vice president for Finance and chief financial officer;
Jeff Weilburg, MD, Psychiatry; Tony James, director, Network Development;
Elaine Woo, MD, Internal Medicine; Janet Quigley, RN, Operating Rooms
Nursing Service; Mike Fifer, MD, director, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory;
J. Kenneth Davison, MD, Anesthesia; Michael Callum, MD, Urology Consultants
of the North Shore; Charles Pu, MD, Geriatric Medicine; and Robert Merritt,
MD, Thoracic Surgery.
