  • Honoring the MGH's faithful volunteers
    On June 27, the MGH's dedicated volunteers were honored on Volunteer Recognition Day for their faithful service to the hospital. Volunteers are one of the MGH’s most vital resources — during the last year alone, the hospital’s 1,242 volunteers logged an incredible 78,421 cumulative hours of service, the equivalent of 38 full-time employees.
  • New park sparks a buzz
    MGHers, patients and visitors who take the MBTA Red Line may have noticed a new landmark in Charles Circle: a 40-foot metasequoia tree, also called a dawn redwood. The majestic tree has been planted in front of the Yawkey Center for Outpatient Care in the former location of Buzzy’s Fabulous Roast Beef.
  • Myths and facts about using gloves
    Since the mid-1980s, the use of gloves by health care workers has increased significantly. Standard Precautions — an approach to patient care intended to protect clinicians from exposure to blood and body fluids and prevent transmission of infection between patients — require gloves be worn during activities where contact with blood or other infectious materials might be expected. Standard Precautions also require gloves be removed, followed immediately by hand hygiene, once a task is completed.
  • Partners Night at the Pops
    The MGH’s own Oscar-worthy stars recently were honored at the “Partners Night at the Pops: A Celebration in Honor of Our Physicians” at Symphony Hall.
  • A mitzvah to benefit many
    When the time drew near for 13-year old Madeline “Maddy” Tillman Tank to choose a mitzvah — a good deed — in celebration of becoming a Bat Mitzvah, she decided to contribute a significant portion of her Bat Mizvah gifts to support Parkinson’s disease research at the MassGeneral Institute for Neurodegenerative Disorders (MIND).
  • Teeing off for the MGH Adult Cystic Fibrosis program
    Recently, Digital Federal Credit Union (DCU) teamed up with the Boomer Esiason Foundation (BEF) to present the MGH with a $50,000 donation to its Adult Cystic Fibrosis program at the Joey O’Donnell Cystic Fibrosis Center at MGH.
  • Patient charts to get system upgrade
    The Acute Care Documentation Project is an MGH and BWH initiative that will automate inpatient documentation — such as flowsheets, notes, assessments and plans of care — through a new electronic system to improve safety, efficiency and accuracy of interdisciplinary documentation.
  • Soccer stars score big at Youth Clinic
    While they may not become professional soccer players just yet, a group of 50 enthusiastic young athletes received firsthand advice from New England Revolution soccer players at the fourth annual Youth Soccer Clinic, sponsored by MGH Human Resources and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.
