The MGH Stroke Service: among the best of the best

During a stroke, every second counts. Each decision and action caring for patients with ischemic stroke can save lives and prevent further disability. The MGH consistently has remained among the best in the country in stroke care because of the efforts of the MGH Acute Stroke Quality Taskforce and the other departments that care for stroke patients.

In recognition of this accomplishment, the hospital was listed in the July 23 issue of US News & World Report by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With the Guidelines – Stroke (GWTG – Stroke) quality improvement program in a special three-page feature. The awards recognized hospitals for care of patients with stroke, coronary disease or heart failure. The MGH was one of 64 hospitals acknowledged in the Silver category for meeting seven evidence-based national stroke quality measures in more than 85 percent of treated patients during the course of a calendar year. For more information about GWTG – Stroke, visit www.americanheart.org/getwiththeguidelines.
