  • “Be an ACE!” wins hand hygiene slogan contest
    Judging from the number of entries submitted to the hospital’s recent hand hygiene slogan contest, many employees know that practicing proper hand hygiene is a top priority at the MGH. The STOP (Stop Transmission of Pathogens) Task Force received more than 300 entries during the monthlong submission period and has announced the winning slogan: “Be an ACE!”
  • Non-emergent ambulances relocate to Cox Entrance
    Because of new building construction at the Main Entrance White Ramp, beginning Sept. 4 non-emergent ambulances will use the Cox Entrance on Blossom Street from 6 am to 10 pm daily. During the night hours from 10 pm to 6 am, all ambulances will use the White Ramp. Emergent ambulances will continue to use the White Ramp at all times.
  • Back-to-school tips
    With back-to-school season here, parents and children may be experiencing feelings of anticipation and anxiety about the new school year. Gene Beresin, MD, of MGH Psychiatry, offers the following suggestions for parents to help their children adjust.

    Before dawn on Aug. 18, MGH Planning and Construction staff and contractors began the impressive task of installing a new 3-Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) device into the MRI Suite on Ellison 2.
  • Hello? Cancer Center, it’s for you
    Would you like to know what it’s like to answer more than 1,000 phone calls per day? Just ask the employees of the Call Center at the MGH Cancer Center. Between July 2006 and June 2007, staff members answered 325,530 calls placed to the Cancer Center, took 600 messages daily and triaged countless e-mails to the appropriate parties for response.
  • A different kind of healing
    It was a challenging but rewarding summer for the graduates of the MGH’s Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Program. The group was honored at a ceremony Aug. 17 in the MGH Chapel marking their completion of the 11-week program.
  • Tune in and relax
    Beginning Sept. 4, inpatients can tune in to two new television channels designed specifically for their relaxation. Each patient room TV will carry the Continuous Ambient Relaxation Environment (C.A.R.E) Channel 45, which will provide beautiful nature images and soothing instrumental music, and the MGH Relaxation and Humor Channel 46, which will air programs for those seeking a humorous distraction or instructional relaxation. The new programming will be available day and night through the hospital’s closed circuit television network.

    What’s an MGHer to do when even the best laid childcare plans fall through? The answer is easy: Call Parents in a Pinch. Offered through Partners HealthCare, Parents in a Pinch provides families in-home, backup and/or emergency childcare and is available seven days per week.
