Senior HealthWISE film series The MGH Senior HealthWISE film series will offer a free screening of "Wild Hogs" Sept. 25, from 1 to 3 pm in the Haber Conference Room. Registration is required. MGH photo contest All MGH and Partners employees are invited to submit their photos to the MGH Photography Department's 10th annual amateur photo contest. Contestants may submit up to two photos and all entries should be in printed form (no slides or electronic files) and no larger than 8x10 inches, unmounted and unframed. Entry forms are available at the Photography Department. All entries must be submitted with a completed entry form by Oct. 16. From Oct 23. through 30, all submissions will be displayed in the first floor corridor between the Jackson and Bigelow buildings. Voting ballots and a ballot box will be available in the same location. Winners will be announced in the Nov. 2 issue of MGH Hotline. For more information, call (617) 726-2237. Ether Day The annual Ether Day celebration will be held Oct. 12, from 2 to 3:30 pm in the Bulfinch Tent. Ether Day honors employees for their length of service to the MGH. An invitation-only dinner for employees who have served the hospital for 20 years or more will be held Oct. 19 at the Boston Marriott Cambridge Hotel. Center for Connected Health symposium The MGH Center for Connected Health will host its annual symposium, "Building the Connected Health Economy: Innovation, Implementation and Investment," Oct. 22 and 23 at the Conference Center at Harvard Medical School, Avenue Louis Pasteur. Key issues covered will include consumer-driven health care technologies, employee health and wellness programs, disease management, revenue and reimbursement models and wireless solutions. A reduced rate of $350 is available for MGH attendees. To receive the reduced rate, use the invitation code "Partners" when registering. Deadline for CIMIT poster competition extended CIMIT (the Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology) has extended the submission deadline for its poster competition to Oct. 1. One-page abstracts must be submitted by 5 pm on that date. The competition is being held in conjunction with the CIMIT Innovation Congress and is open to students, postdoctoral fellows and staff investigators affiliated with an academic medical center. Awards will be given for the most innovative research, potential for patient benefit and best student poster and will be announced during the event. For more information, visit www.cimit.org. IRB Issues for the Bench and Desk Scientist The MGH Clinical Research Program is offering "IRB Issues for the Bench and Desk Scientist" Oct. 10, from 4 to 5 pm in the Simches Building, Room 3110. Elizabeth Hohmann, MD, chair and director of the Partners Institutional Review Board (IRB), will discuss ethical, regulatory and institutional issues relevant to analysis of human biological samples, medical records and databases. Wellman Center lecture The MGH Wellman Center for Photomedicine lecture series will host "Complex Regulation of TGFb/SMAD Signaling by Protein Phosphates" Sept. 25, from 2:15 to 3:15 pm in the Thier Conference Room. HMS faculty fellowship program Harvard Medical School (HMS) junior faculty and postdoctoral students are invited to apply for several fellowships offered by outside foundations, including the Ellison Medical Foundation New Scholars Program in Aging, the William T. Grant Foundation Faculty Scholars Program and the Damon Runyon Clinical Investigator Award. Potential candidates must first apply through the HMS Faculty Fellowship Program. The HMS program selects the applications to be forwarded to the foundations. Applications are due by Oct. 23 and should be sent to the Office of the Dean for Academic and Clinical Programs, Gordon Hall, Room 101.
