Genetic research workshop
The MGH Clinical Research Program will sponsor a workshop, "Nuts and Bolts of Genetics and Genetic Research" Nov. 6, 13, 27 and Dec. 4 from 3 to 4:30 pm at the Simches Research Center, Room 3210. The workshop will focus on the basic principles of genetics and genetics research. The course is $120 and is open to research study coordinators and research nurses. Annual women's health research lecture
The MGH Women's Health Research Committee will host the fourth annual women's health research lecture, "Women and the FDA" Nov. 7, from noon to 1 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. Susan Wood, PhD, former director of the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Office of Women's Health and current research professor at the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services, will present. Global Health seminar with Paul Farmer, MD, PhD
The MGH Center for Global Health will launch its inaugural seminar series Nov. 1 with "Health, Human Rights, and Social Justice." The seminar will be held from 5 to 6:30 pm in the Ether Dome and Paul Farmer, MD, PhD, founding director of Partners in Health, will be the guest speaker. Illuminations retrospective exhibit

The MGH Cancer Center will host a retrospective exhibit of Illuminations, a rotating art exhibit housed in the center. The exhibit will take place Nov. 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm in the Yawkey Center, second floor and will include a silent auction and the unveiling of "Diamond in the Rough,"a painting commissioned in honor of Illuminations'fifth anniversary. AARP award celebration
In honor of the MGH's recent award from AARP as one of the top employers in the country for workers over age 50, MGH employees are invited to attend a celebration Nov. 1, from 1 to 3:30 pm in the Bulfinch Tent. For more information about the award, visit www.massgeneral.org/aarp/.

Senior HealthWISE events
Senior HealthWISE will sponsor the following events: a lecture series, "Health and Wellness Through Chiropractic," Nov. 1, from 11 am to noon in the Haber Conference Room; hypertension screenings and blood pressure checks Nov. 5, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm at the Hill House, 127 Mt. Vernon St.; a screening of the film "A Prairie Home Companion"Nov. 6, from 1 to 3 pm in the Haber Conference Room; a "Fall Into Fitness" exercise class Nov. 8, from 11 am to noon with lunch served from noon to 1 pm; and a memoir writing workshop Nov. 12, from 11 am to noon at the West End Library.
