MGPO physicians honored for clinical excellence

Congratulations to this year's recipients of the Brian A. McGovern, MD, Award for Clinical Excellence: Patricia O'Malley, MD, of Pediatric Emergency Services; Nagagopal Venna, MD, of Neurology; and Francis Hornicek, MD, PhD, of Orthopeadics.

The annual Brian A. McGovern, MD, Award for Clinical Excellence was created in honor of McGovern, a respected MGH cardiologist who died tragically in 2003. The award recognizes physicians who demonstrate the qualities that McGovern embodied — clinical excellence, commitment and compassion.

MGPO Chairman and Chief Executive Officer David F. Torchiana, MD, presented each recipient with an engraved crystal plaque and acknowledged their achievements at this year's MGPO Recognition Dinner. McGovern's life was highlighted and celebrated at the event with a short film illustrating his compassion and dedication to his patients, his many inspirational qualities, intelligence and good nature.
