Spring training may still be months away, but the pitchers of the Boston Red Sox have already begun gearing up for the 2008 season, participating in off-season workouts at the MGH Sports Medicine Center Nov. 27 through 29. During the workouts, players took part in a series of exercises and drills to establish their baseline strength, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness, all under the watchful eye of Red Sox coaching and training staff and MGHers including Thomas Gill, MD, chief of MGH Sports Medicine and medical director for the Red Sox; Michael Reinold, PT, DPT, ATC, CSCS, coordinator of MGH Sports Therapy Research and Education and rehabilitation coordinator and assistant trainer for the Red Sox; and Scott Waugh, PT, senior physical therapist for MGH Sports Therapy and the Red Sox. At the end of the week, individual programs were created for each player to ensure they are in peak physical condition when they report to the Red Sox training camp in mid-February.
