  • Employee blood donors give from the heart
    At the eighth annual Employee Blood Donor Appreciation Luncheon Dec. 3, the MGH Blood Donor Center recognized a very special group of donors: MGH employees. The luncheon was held as a thank you for hospital employees who demonstrated a commitment to sharing the most precious gift — the gift of life — by donating blood or platelets four or more times during fiscal year 2007.
  • Belknap named director of Corporate Compliance
    John Belknap, director of Billing Compliance for the MGH and MGPO since 1999, has been named director of Corporate Compliance for the MGH and MGPO. Belknap succeeds Maryanne Spicer, the incumbent director.
  • Spreading holiday cheer to MGHfC patients
    Thanks to the generosity of 15-year-old Carina Comer, a former patient of the MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC), young patients receiving treatment at the Francis H. Burr Proton Therapy Center enjoyed a bounty of gifts — including toys, dolls, games and treats — that Carina delivered to the children as a holiday surprise Dec. 20.
  • Kleinman named MGHfC physician-in-chief
    Ronald E. Kleinman, MD, has been named chief of the Department of Pediatrics and physician-in-chief of the MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC). Kleinman has served in an interim capacity in these leadership roles for more than a year.
  • Wiener-Kronish appointed chief of Anesthesia and Critical Care
    Jeanine Wiener-Kronish, MD, has been selected as the new chief of the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care. Currently a professor of Anesthesia and Medicine and the vice chairman of the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF), she is succeeding Warren M. Zapol, MD, who has led the department for 14 years.
  • MGH CarePages feature new patient safety link
    Launched in 2005 by Patient Care Services, MGH CarePages are free, easy-to-use web pages that help family and friends communicate when a loved one is receiving medical care. Recently, the hospital introduced a new patient safety feature to its CarePages to help empower patients, family members and friends to become collaborative members of the health care team
