Belknap named director of Corporate
Compliance
John
Belknap, director of Billing Compliance for the MGH and MGPO since 1999,
(right) has been named director of Corporate Compliance for the
MGH and MGPO. Belknap succeeds Maryanne Spicer, the incumbent director.
Over the past several years, the MGH/MGPO compliance program has evolved
to address new areas of regulatory focus and concern. Belknap will be
responsible for leading the continuing development of the program to bring
the MGH compliance efforts to an even higher level.
"John was clearly the leading candidate for this position,"
says Gregg Meyer, MD, senior vice president of the Center for Quality
and Safety. "We are pleased to continue to work with him in his new
post as we increasingly make quality and safety a major focus at the MGH."
Prior to joining the MGH, Belknap worked with the state Medicare program,
which was then administered by BlueCross BlueShield of Massachusetts.
He holds a master's degree in Public Administration with a concentration
in Health Policy from Northeastern University.
Following her 40-year career at the MGH that began when she was a unit
coordinator, Spicer will be stepping down as director and reducing her
work hours while concentrating on a number of special projects.
"As Maryanne has advanced in her career at the MGH, she has not only
developed a wealth of institutional knowledge, but she also has overseen
and managed an array of challenges and major accomplishments," says
Jean R. Elrick, MD, senior vice president for Administration. "We
are grateful to her for all her work on behalf of the hospital. At the
same time, we are very happy to have John take on this new role. He has
been with the MGH and MGPO for the past 17 years and has a wonderful record
of accomplishments. He brings a great deal of experience and expertise
to the position."
