In General Emery Brown, MD, PhD, of the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care, has been named a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE). The Board of Directors of the IEEE selected Brown for his "contributions to state-space algorithms for point processes and applications to neuroscience data." Election as an IEEE fellow is one of the most prestigious honors for institute members and is bestowed upon a very limited number of IEEE senior members, with no more than one-tenth of one percent of the total IEEE voting membership elevated each year. William F. Crowley Jr., MD, director of the Reproductive Endocrine Unit in the MGH Department of Medicine and the Harvard Reproductive Sciences Center, a National Institutes of Health Center of Excellence, was awarded the 2007 IPSEN International Prize. The award, for endocrine communication and regulation, is an internationally juried prize given annually by the Fondation IPSEN, a European nonprofit organization dedicated to facilitating the distribution of medical and scientific knowledge and encouraging exploration in emerging areas of research. Previous winners include Robert Lefkowicz, MD, a former MGH trainee. As the award recipient, Crowley will give the keynote address at the 2008 annual meeting of the European Neuroendocrine Association in Antalya, Turkey. |
