  • MGH Comforters: Offering support one stitch at a time
    Often, a kind gesture or the comfort of a warm, meaningful object can help console those suffering illness or loss. The MGH Comforters — a group of quilters comprising MGH employees, patients and volunteers — offers both by donating dozens of handmade quilts each year to MGH inpatient floors for nurses to give to patients and their families.
  • Filing taxes under the Massachusetts Health Care Reform Act
    Beginning with the 2007 tax year, the Massachusetts Health Care Reform Act requires all Massachusetts residents to show proof of health coverage when filing their state taxes. Individuals who do not provide proof of insurance may receive a tax penalty.
  • Rain, sleet or snow, MGH Emergency Preparedness is ready to go
    It is a frightening scenario — on a cold January evening, thousands of spectators are packed into the nearby TD Banknorth Garden to cheer on the Boston Bruins when a chemical agent is suddenly released into the crowd during intermission. Many people immediately experience respiratory distress and other symptoms and rush to the MGH, just blocks away, for care and decontamination.
  • Do it all with one call
    One phone call is all it takes to link pediatric patients and physicians to the MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC) through the MGHfC Access and New Appointment Center. The center, which recently celebrated its one-year anniversary, was created as a resource for doctors and families to help both groups navigate the MGHfC, improve access to specialty practices and simplify scheduling.
  • Slavin honored by El Planeta
    Peter L. Slavin, MD, MGH president, has been recognized as an individual who has made a positive impact on the local Latino community in 2007 by El Planeta, the largest circulating Spanish-language newspaper in New England.
