Weaving MGH's B3C into the fabric of the city Passersby can now get a glimpse of the future exterior of the MGH's Building for the Third Century (B3C) when traveling by the Yawkey Center for Outpatient Care on Cambridge Street. There, a large construction model — a mock-up curtain wall — has temporarily been built. The 20-foot-tall structure is much like a collage displaying materials that will be used to create the B3C's exterior walls and surfaces. For all major new buildings in the city, the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) requires a curtain wall mock-up for their review and approval. Once the BRA reviews the materials, the MGH is required to abide by the approved design. The mock-up will remain in place through construction of the actual curtain wall, scheduled for completion in spring 2010. Opening in 2011, the B3C will offer an intriguing palette of materials and finishes to the MGH campus.
