• Start the presses: MGH history books in the works
  As part of the MGH's upcoming bicentennial celebrations in 2011, two books covering the hospital's history currently are being written. The first, which will serve as an authoritative history of the hospital from its founding to the current day, will examine many aspects of the MGH's evolution. The second book will tell the story of the MGH's people and voices through photographs and personal accounts.

• Child's Play: A day of events for children at the MGH
  On May 2, MGHers played host to some very special young guests during two hospital events: the Children's Health Fair and Take Your Children to Work Day. During the Children's Health Fair, which is presented by the MassGeneral Hospital for Children, more than 2,500 schoolchildren from Boston and surrounding areas visited interactive booths and displays to learn about nutrition, exercise, fire safety, heart health and more.

• MGH clinicians show their musical side
  Established in 1982 by members of Harvard Medical School (HMS), the Longwood Symphony Orchestra (LSO) comprises musicians from the medical, academic, business and arts professions. Since its creation, the LSO has supported a number of health-related nonprofit organizations, raising more than $750,000.

• What does the MGH bicentennial mean to you?
  As the hospital prepares to mark its bicentennial milestone in 2011, MGHers are invited to share their creativity to help define what the 200th anniversary means to the MGH community.

• MGH Palliaitve Care Symposium
  As one of the first academic palliative care programs in the United States, the MGH Palliative Care Service offers a number of services to help patients and their families live as well and as fully as possible when faced with a life-threatening illness. An afternoon symposium on "The Future of Palliative Care" was held for MGH staff and former palliative care fellows April 24 in honor of the service's 12th anniversary.

• MGH Revere Community Health Day
  On April 29, the MGH Revere HealthCare Center celebrated its eighth annual Community Health Day, a celebratory and educational event for health care professionals in the Revere community.

• Willard M. Daggat Cardiothoracic Research Scholarship
  To stimulate an interest in cardiothoracic research, Cary Akins, MD, of MGH Cardiac Surgery, and Douglas Mathisen, MD, of MGH Thoracic Surgery, have spearheaded an effort to establish the Willard M. Daggett Cardiothoracic Research Scholarship. A $10,000 scholarship will be awarded each year to a resident committed to cardiothoracic research during his or her general surgery residency.
