The Harvard Radiation Oncology Program (HROP) resulted from the joining of the two established residency programs at Harvard Medical School, the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and the Joint Center for Radiation Therapy (JCRT) program in the Longwood Area. Each had a long history of tradition and achievement and their joining brought together these strengths.
The educational philosophy of the Harvard Radiation Oncology Program can be broken down into four principles:
In the first two years of the combined program, the residents rotate around the core clinical services at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children’s Hospital. A third year is devoted to research with a broad range of opportunities available. These extend from basic bench work though translational projects to clinical stud-ies and evaluations of public health issues. In the fourth year residents return to the specialist rotations at the core hospitals and have the opportunity for elective time elsewhere.
We participate in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). You will need to contact your medical school Dean’s Office to access the MyERAS web-based application. Your application should be accompanied by:
Completed applications will be evaluated by members of the selection committee in late October. Selected candidates are invited for an interview in December and January. At the time of an applicant's visit, he/she will meet with faculty and trainees at both the Massachusetts General Hospital and Longwood sites and will receive a tour of the facilities.
