Scans reveal intricate brain wiring

Professor Van J. Wedeen of the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Mass General is leading an effort to develop new imaging technology as part of the Human Connectome Project. Funded by the National Institutes of Health, the project seeks to create the first map of the human brain and recently released its first images. Using one of the most powerful brain scanners in the world, Mass General researchers are able to produce 3D images that illuminate pathways in the brain with the potential to identify biomarkers for diagnosis and management of mental health issues.
