The MGH Imaging Department recently honored Robert H. Ackerman, MD, MPH, director emeritus of the MGH Neurovascular Laboratory, for his work as a pioneer in stroke imaging and prevention. In a March 8 ceremony, it was announced that the lab will now be known as the R. H. Ackerman Neurovascular Lab. Founded by Ackerman in 1974 as the first consultative noninvasive neurovascular lab in the country, it has been dedicated to using ultrasound to understand blood flow to the brain to identify patients at risk or who have experienced stroke. Ackerman served as its director until 2001. Read more articles from the 03/15/13 Hotline issue.
