Massachusetts General Hospital provides students from selected schools in Boston, Chelsea and Revere with the resources they need to pursue health care careers.
Public school students in Boston, Chelsea and Revere—the communities where our health clinics are located—have lower graduation rates than the state average, and many of those students who graduate from high school do not go on to complete a college degree.
Studies have shown that lower educational attainment is connected to lower economic attainment, which is subsequently linked to poorer health status.
To counteract this trend, Massachusetts General Hospital's Center for Community Health Improvement (CCHI) has created a series of programs that are designed to introduce students to topics in science and medicine and help them pursue health care careers.
Each year, almost 600 youths have experiences with Mass General through CCHI programs, and more than 400 Mass General employees volunteer their time to make this possible.
