Madhusmita Misra, MD

The Misra group studies neuroendocrine and bone alterations in conditions spanning the nutritional spectrum.

Recent work has examined bone alterations and therapeutic strategies for low bone density in teenage and young adult athletes with amenorrhea, and in anorexia nervosa. The group also studies determinants of cardiometabolic risk in teenagers with obesity. Research studies from this group have led to the development of innovative therapeutic approaches to treat low bone density and optimize bone accrual in teenagers with anorexia nervosa. Ongoing studies are examining the impact of estrogen replacement strategies on bone density and structure in athletes with amenorrhea, and exploring the bone-fat connection.

The Misra group is NIH and industry funded and resides within the Neuroendocrine Unit of Massachusetts General Hospital.  It has extensive collaborations with Radiology and Sports Medicine.
