It's All About Communication and Relationships.
Primary care is the cornerstone of medicine. Primary care clinicians ensure that patients get the best care possible. At The John D. Stoeckle Center for Primary Care Innovation, we believe that excellent communication between clinicians and patients can greatly enhance the quality of care. Well-informed patients, along with their family members, can be true partners in their plan of care, participating fully with their primary care team in making sound, educated decisions.
Today, primary care clinicians are providing more complex care in an increasingly busy environment. This severely limits their time to educate patients about their health and chronic illnesses, as well as discuss other issues like prevention and wellness measures - a situation that is frustrating to both practitioners and patients alike.
At the Stoeckle Center, we seek achievable ways to improve the delivery of primary care. Drawing on the vast resources of Massachusetts General Hospital and the expertise and experiences of patients themselves, we are developing innovative methods that enhance clinician-patient communication and the education of doctors and other health care professionals to provide patients with the best and most satisfying health outcomes possible.
