About This Program
The Literature & Medicine: Humanities at the Heart of Health Care program is offered to members of the primary care community at Mass General. Developed by the Maine Humanities Council, The Stoeckle Center adopted the Literature & Medicine program in 2007 in collaboration with the Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities.
Our goal is to gather a group of healthcare professionals representing a variety of areas of the Mass General Primary Care Community. Previous groups consisted of MGH Primary Care nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, practice administrators, research assistants, and social workers. In these sessions, we will read works of fiction, poetry, memoirs and nonfiction selected to encourage participants to explore the intricate nature of our relationships with patients and each other. With the guidance of an experienced facilitator and humanities scholar, Suzanne Koven, MD, we will discuss issues raised by the readings that are central to the human face of our work as healthcare clinicians and staff.
