What is the Mission of the CCCES?

At the macro level, the mission of the CCCES is to develop research and evidence on which to make rational policy choices and allocate resources. At the micro level the mission of the CCCES is to contribute to surgical outcomes research, which will improve the quality and value of clinical care, reform the doctor-patient relationship, and advance the education of surgical residents and faculty in this sphere.

CCCES Participation in the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP)
The Department of Surgery, led by the CCCES, is one of 14 beta sites that were selected to participate in an AHRQ funded study to implement the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP/PSS) in private sector hospitals. A risk-adjusted surgical outcomes program, the NSQIP/PSS has been so successful that the American College of Surgeons is now making participation available to all hospitals nationwide.

As a participating member, the CCCES has amassed a database of over 4,000 (and growing) risk-adjusted surgical cases with verified 30-day clinical outcomes. The CCCES has the ability to benchmark data and results against the other participating departments of surgery and the VA hospitals, which includes over 60,000 and 1.2 million cases respectively.
