Dr. Chang is a burn surgeon at the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Shriners Hospitals for Children-Boston. He is also an Instructor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. He has been awarded several times for his exceptional patient care.
BiographyDr. Philip H. Chang serves as an acute burn surgeon at both the Massachusetts General Hospital for adult patients and the Shriners Hospitals for Children-Boston for pediatric patients. He was inspired to be a burn surgeon by Dr. Richard Gamelli of Loyola University Medical Center.
After finishing general surgery training at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago, Dr. Chang then pursued specialty training in burns at the Shriners' Hospital-Northern California under Dr. David Greenhalgh and Dr. Tina Palmieri. He devoted an additional year to obtain specialty certification in surgical critical care at the University of California at Davis-Medical Center. He joined the staffs of the MGH and Shriners Hospital-Boston in 2011 where he works alongside the finest burn surgeons, burn nurses, and other burn team members.
Dr. Chang has been recognized throughout his training for his patient care and his education of his students. While in residency training, he received received multiple patient and staff commendations at both Loyola University Medical Center and Advocate Christ Medical Center. He also won five teaching awards from both medical students and his fellow residents. He has been inducted into the Arthur P Gold Humanism Honor Society which selects exemplars of humanism in medicine.
He and his wife, Soyeon, are blessed with 2 children, Iris and Alex. Dr. Chang enjoys biking, piano playing, origami, and calligraphy.
