BiographyRussell LR Ryan, MD, FACS received his Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from Amherst College in 1971 and his Medical Degree from Cornell Weil Medical College in 1975. He trained as a Resident and Fellow at the Massachusetts General Hospital from 1975 to 1981. Dr. Ryan began private practice in 1981 with a wide interest in general surgery and endoscopy procedures. He joined the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization and the Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Surgery in 2014, and he holds the title of Clinical Affiliate at the MGH and Clinical Instructor in Surgery at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Ryan is board certified in General Surgery and is a member of the American College of Surgeons. He was president for many years of the Essex Surgical Society and is a member of the Surgeon's Travel Club.
Dr. Russell Ryan is the author of several chapters on nutrition in the Manual of Intensive Care Medicine, a paper on the treatment of esophageal varices, and the author of an appreciation of Stephen Hedberg, MD.
