Mass General and NCAA coaches promote colorectal cancer screening

11/Mar/2013

The Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center is partnering with the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS) and Coaches vs. Cancer to promote screening and testing during Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month in March.

Produced by CBS HealthWatch, the Public Service Announcements (PSAs) stress the importance of testing and working with your doctors on a treatment plan. Colorectal Cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death in the United States, and often has no symptoms, which makes cancer screening even more important for people over 50 years old.

Mass General Cancer Center and Digestive Healthcare Center doctors James Cusack Jr., MD, and Patricia Sylla, MD, are joined by Coach Norm Stewart, founder of Coaches vs. Cancer, and NCAA coaches Oliver Purnell (DePaul University), Seth Greenberg (Virginia Tech), Gary Williams (University of Maryland), Jim Boeheim (Syracuse University) and Bo Ryan (University of Wisconsin).
