The Division of Thoracic Surgery has extensive experience in performing tracheal resections for primary tumors of the airway.

The primary tumors fall into three categories:

  • Adenoid cystic carcinomas of the airway
  • Squamous carcinomas of the airway
  • Benign or low-grade cancers of the airway

Surgical Treatment

Surgical management encompasses all of the principles of airway surgery, from laryngotracheal resection and cervical exenterations; to larynx sparing laryngotracheal resections and reconstructions; to primary tracheal resection and reconstructions and carinal resections and reconstructions.
