Donate Life Month designation
GIFT Of LIFE: Celebrating the new designation at the State House
April is Now Donate Life month in Massachusetts. John Polanowicz, secretary of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services, presented the Governor’s Proclamation at an April 7 event at the State House. Joren C. Madsen, MD, DPhil, director of the MGH Transplant Center, who was on hand to celebrate the new designation applauded the state legislature and Registry of Motor Vehicles for their critical role in the promotion of organ donation. Angela Marquez, administrative director of the MGH Transplant Center and Division of Transplant Surgery, also was present along with an MGH kidney transplant recipient.
“The event was a wonderful way to celebrate and thank the many donors and their families who have said ‘yes’ to donation, to giving life and to giving a renewed sense of hope to transplant recipients,” said Marquez. “Without the donors, none of this would be possible.”
To learn more about organ and tissue donation and transplantation, MGH Transplant Center staff and New England Organ Bank volunteers will host an information table in the White Lobby from 10 am to 2 pm, April 25 and in the lobby of the Charlestown Health Center from 10 am to noon, April 21 and 28.
