Education: Harvard College (A.B. magna cum laude in Chemistry); Harvard Medical School (HMS) (M.D. magna cum laude in Medicine); 2005 Suffolk University (M.B.A. with highest honors in Finance)
Residency: 1990-1995 Resident in Surgery (Massachusetts General Hospital); 1995-1996 Research Fellowship in Transplantation Immunology (MGH/HMS Transplantation Biology Research Center); 1996-1999 Fellow in Cardiothoracic Surgery (MGH and Children's Hospital, Boston)
Dr. Allan is a thoracic surgeon practicing at MGH and NSMC-Salem Hospital. He has a full-time HMS faculty appointment, and is a member of the MGH Lung Transplantation Team. He also serves as the Associate Chief of Thoracic Surgery and Co-Director of Surgical Intensive Care at NSMC-Salem Hospital. Dr. Allan's clinical interests include the surgical management of benign and malignant diseases of the lungs and esophagus, with an emphasis on lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and hyperhidrosis.
ResearchDr. Allan is an NIH-funded principal investigator in the area of lung transplantation, and has won numerous other grants and awards for his research. He is published in the fields of human physiology, thoracic surgery, and transplantation, with special expertise in the experimental use of large-animal models in cardiothoracic transplantation.
