About the Division of Trauma, Emergency Surgery and Surgical Critical Care (TESSCC)   Quick Links

Massachusetts General Hospital is a Level 1 Adult and Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, meaning that we have been verified as able to treat the highest severity of trauma patient. We admit, on average, 2,000 trauma patients and another 2,000 emergency surgery patients per year, and although the vast majority of our patients are from the Boston metropolitan area, patients are referred to our facility from all over the country.

Our team provides 24-hour coverage for trauma and emergency surgery cases. The around-the-clock physician presence, along with the excellent multidisciplinary collaboration with specialists in Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and many other services provides for the ideal management and treatment options for trauma and emergency surgery patients. At MGH, we believe strongly that it takes a whole team of surgeons, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, social workers, chaplains, respiratory therapists, and others to help patients regain good health and function.
